Development of information, communication, and digital technology in the 21st Century has brought the emergence of virtual space in several fields such as politics, economics, science, arts, and so on. Museum has also adopted the virtual features, thus the virtual museum has been established. This virtual space is being utilized for people from all over the world to communicate and be connected to each other. Although there exists many virtual museums, Virtual Collection of Asian Masterpieces(hereinafter, it is called as VCM) is improving its value as a virtual museum by creating international cooperation with museums in Eurasia beyond boundary of the country. VCM is a cultural project led by major museums that are located in member countries of Asia¡¤Europe Meeting(ASEM). The major museums that are registered in Asia¡¤Europe Museum Network(ASEMUS) participate in VCM project and they provide variety of cultural information as an union of virtual museum. This paper focuses on the establishment of VCM and its outcome of operation. As a result of this study, VCM has several limitations as a virtual museum. However, this research shows that VCM is performing an important role not only as a bridge in resolving imbalance of collections between Asia and Europe, but also by deriving international compromise by improving the relationship between the two continents. Based on this result, this paper suggests the direction of improvement for virtual museums.
